The Three-phase induction motors are mechanically simple, highly reliable, rugged, lower in cost per horsepower than DC motors and capable of more torque and efficiency than single-phase AC motors. Variable voltage and frequency supply to AC drives is invariably obtained from a three phase inverter. A number of pulse width modulation schemes is used to obtain variable voltage and frequency supply. The most widely used PWM schemes for three phase inverter are carrier based sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) and space vector PWM (SVPWM). In this proposed system sinusoidal pulse width modulation was preferably used for controlling the speed of the three phase induction motor. PWM control provides efficient and accurate control of the motor’s speed. This drive application allows PWM control of the induction motor running in a closed-loop. The application serves as an example of speed control of 3-phase induction motor design using a dsPIC30F4011 controller by means of ZigBee wireless control protocol.
