Gesture Identification Based Remote Controlled Robot

Manjusha Dhabale and Abhijit Kamune

Gestures provide a rich and intuitive form of interaction for controlling robots. This paper presents an approach for designing and controlling a mobile robot with hand gestures. Designed and assembled two drive wheel controllable Robot with Zigbee Transceiver. Communication medium. The embedded executable are designed and developed for five directional command codes (for right motion, left motion, forward motion, backward, and to stop). The assembled architecture performed the desired activities based on the commands with a tolerable response time. Hand gesture recognition system has been developed based on statistical measures like mean, variance, skewness, and kurtosis as a feature set using CART model. Apt preprocessors have been employed cropping, segmenting, binarization. It is observed that this classifier is robust with respect to usage of hand and mode of hands like front or back side of hand. To evaluate the system the gesture data has been acquired from set of students. The gesture classifier10-fold validation performed 90% accuracy.
